Stara Glass is leading the Glass Industry Emission Reduction Alliance (ERA) within the European project COREu (CO₂ Routes across Europe), one of the most significant EU-funded initiatives focused on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

What are Emission Reduction Alliances (ERAs)?

Emission Reduction Alliances (ERAs) are collaborative networks bringing together industrial companies, CO₂ capture, transport and storage operators, research organizations, institutions and other key CCS stakeholders. Their purpose is to create a structured platform for cooperation to address shared decarbonization challenges, develop CO₂ collection hubs, improve transport infrastructure interoperability and support the development of enabling regulatory frameworks.

Within COREu, several sector-specific ERAs will be established for energy-intensive industries. Stara Glass will lead the ERA dedicated to the glass industry, leveraging its technological expertise, system-level vision and deep understanding of the sector’s needs.

COREu – CO₂ Routes across Europe

COREu is one of the largest European CCS projects, aiming to reduce 6.8 million tonnes of CO₂ per year by 2035, and up to 36 million tonnes per year by 2050.
The project focuses on demonstrating safe and effective CO₂ capture, transport and storage solutions, while developing new cross-border CO₂ routes across Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine. COREu represents a key contribution to Europe’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.

Stara Glass Role

Within the COREu framework, Stara Glass will coordinate the Glass Industry ERA, fostering collaboration among key sector stakeholders and supporting the definition of realistic and scalable decarbonization pathways for the glass industry.
The goal is to prepare the sector for future CCS opportunities by promoting shared strategies and concrete solutions for CO₂ emission reduction.

The COREu initiative, the ERA concept and the role of Stara Glass were presented during the GlassTrend event, raising awareness and encouraging stakeholder engagement.
